As Sri Lanka’s very first impact investment firm, LIIN is focused on channeling private capital to solve pressing social and environmental issues in Sri Lanka by promoting impact investing across the island. This includes actively investing in social enterprises through our impact investment funds as well as providing business development support to nurture a well-developed ecosystem of social entrepreneurs across the country.

As it stands, private equity investments in Sri Lanka go almost exclusively to larger tech startups founded in and around Colombo. A majority of Sri Lanka’s successful social enterprises are still small/medium sized enterprises and are scattered across the island and are too small to benefit from an investment through a traditional impact investment fund. However, they are also too large to be able to use a micro loan and as such have to resort to expensive funding from banks in order to access growth capital. In order to provide a solution to this problem, we’ve structured our operations in order to serve social entrepreneurs at all stages.

At the Micro Stage:
LIIN is currently a co-owner of a reality tv show ATH PAVURA which is a platform for social entrepreneurs from across the island to pitch their ideas/ businesses to a panel of high net worth individuals to receive an investment. These HNW individuals act as angel investors who, in addition to capital, facilitate market linkages and provide business development support.

At the Small/ Medium and Large Stages:
LIIN is currently in the process of raising two impact investment funds in partnership with Capital Alliance and the UNDP. The Social Impact Fund (SIF) will invest exclusively in small and medium sized social enterprises. This is the first impact investment fund of its kind in the world. The second fund, Social Entrepreneurship Fund (SEF), will invest in larger social enterprises similar to a traditional impact investment fund.

To provide knowledge and financial capital to small and medium sized social enterprises from across Sri Lanka that directly address pressing social and environmental issues through our impact investment funds.

To lower barriers to impact investing through knowledge dissemination and to facilitate the development of a robust ecosystem of social enterprises across the country.
